A video of two lovebird penguins enjoying a hand-in-hand stroll on the beach has gone viral and people are completely overwhelmed by the romance.
The footage was captured on Boulder Beach in South Africa and shows an adorable couple emerging from a dip in the sea. They stand in the wet sand and take a few seconds to enjoy the moment together.
The pair hold hands, or flippers, and appear to gaze into each other’s eyes. The video was shared on Twitter and has been watched more than 1.6 million times.
Commenters were overwhelmed by the display of love, with many expressing jealousy that their own relationships don’t match up. “These penguin out strolling the beach. Can't even get a txt back smh,” one person wrote. “Time to find someone new. Don’t settle. Penguins don’t!” another commenter responded.
Penguins, like lobsters, are known for their monogamy and have long inspired #relationshipgoals in humans.
Male penguins go to great lengths to court a female, including spending hours searching for the perfect pebble to present to their heart’s desire. If the female is impressed, she puts the pebble in her nest and the two become mating partners.
