Bigamy in the UK is not only illegal, but also a criminal offense which carries up to seven years imprisonment. However, British officialdom is turning a blind eye to what is going on, Robin Tilbrook, leader of the English Democrats party, told RT.
A Muslim businessman in the UK has launched a dating website offering the opportunity to find a second wife. Despite bigamy being illegal in Britain, the service has already attracted a significant amount of attention.
RT: Bigamy is illegal in the UK. Why has this website been so successful? Maybe the law should be changed now?
Robin Tilbrook: Certainly my point is going to be that this is not only illegal, but it is also a criminal offense which carries up to seven years imprisonment. What has been going on with the website will amount to either incitement for people to commit the offense of bigamy, or being accessory where it has actually occurred. I think it is an instance where different rules are being applied to different groups…
RT: Britain is certainly a Multicultural society, isn’t it? Maybe this law should be considered?
RTb: Multiculturalism is different from multi-ethnicity. Multiculturalism is a sort of state doctrine, whereby different cultures are to be treated as being of the same importance and level within society. When you look at it from a legal point of view, what you wind up with is the situation which is completely incoherent. What the rule of law says is that everybody should be treated equally. Whereas what we are having with multiculturalism is the situation where people are not being treated equally. We as a party would object to that kind of unequal treatment.
RT: If you want to integrate Muslim people into British society, shouldn’t Brits be thinking about welcoming bigamy in future?
RTb: What is happening is that the officialdom rather than applying the law…[is] turning a blind eye to what is going on, allowing it, and indeed helping it by way of giving welfare benefits … like housing benefit to the second wife, or third wife, or whatever they’re allowing and facilitating Muslim men to have a number of different wives at the taxpayers’ expense.
