Maradona has signed a three-year deal as chairman of the club and touched down on Monday to start his new job in Belarus.
The 57-year-old waved to fans as he arrived at Brest Airport, before departing in a blue Mercedes.
That was nothing, however, compared to how the World Cup winner made an entrance at the club’s stadium to watch Dinamo Brest take on Shakhtyor Soligorsk in the Belarusian Premier League.
Maradona was paraded to fans in a huge military vehicle, enthusiastically waving a club scarf above his head.
He also appeared a press conference in honor of his arrival, receiving a ring and taking the time to sign various items for the assembled fans and press.
Dinamo Brest went down to a 3-1 defeat in front of their new chairman, despite taking the lead in the 25th minute, and currently sit sixth in the Belarusian Premier League table.
Maradona was announced in the role as club chairman in May. He has previously coached the Argentina national team, and his most recent job was at Al Fujairah in the UAE.
The Argentina legend attended the World Cup in Russia this summer, and made the headlines due to some bizarre performances while watching his nation from the stands.
His performances peaked during Argentina’s dramatic group stage win against Nigeria, during which he displayed an array of emotions.
He crossed his chest and looked skywards when Lionel Messi opened the scoring, prompting some to say he appeared “possessed,” before slumping in his chair when Nigeria equalized. He then made a double middle-finger gesture to fans after Argentina secured a late winning goal.
Argentina bowed out at the last 16 stage when they were defeated 4-3 by eventual winners France.
