Six clubs are set to be in contention for the main trophy, which will be presented by Ovechkin himself.

"Alexander Ovechkin is an outstanding athlete, who glorifies our country throughout the world,” said sports minister of the Moscow region, Roman Terushkov, TASS reported.

There are a few athletes who can match Ovechkin in terms of his talent and sports achievements. It’s a great honor for Moscow Region to hold a tournament named after such an athlete like Alexander. This year, six teams from our strongest sports clubs will take part in the competition. We will do everything possible to make guests and participants feel unforgettable emotions.”

In June, Washington Capitals star Ovechkin played a crucial role in helping the team beat the Vegas Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup final, capturing the first NHL championship in the franchise’s history.

The 32-year-old showed off the prestigious silver trophy at the World Cup fan zone in Moscow on July 7, just several hours before the crucial quarter-final match between Russia and Croatia, which the Balkan team won in a dramatic penalty shootout.
