Ronaldo, the second highest scorer in Brazilian national team history, was reportedly transported to an Ibizan hospital on Friday evening where he is currently in intensive care after coming down with pneumonia.
The 41-year-old former Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Inter Milan striker, considered by many to be one of the best footballers in history, is a regular visitor to the Spanish island and was reportedly admitted to the Can Misses Hospital in Ibiza two days ago, according to Diario de Ibiza.
The publication quoted hospital sources, saying the former footballer was in intensive care, but no further information could be released for reasons of data protection.
Ronaldo, who owns a business on the island, arrived in the popular tourist destination a few days ago.
He retired from football in 2011 after a glittering career in which he won two Ballon d’Ors, as well as numerous titles on the domestic and international scenes.
In 2012, he contracted dengue fever, and has recently battled a thyroid problem which has caused him to struggle with his weight.
