US Senate backs troop withdrawal from Iraq in March
The U.S. Senate voted Tuesday on a complete troop withdrawal from Iraq by the end of March next year. The Senate defeated a Republican amendment that would have removed a withdrawal clause from a bill on military funding.
But U.S. President, George W. Bush, insists he will veto any legislation with exact dates for pulling troops out of Iraq. While the final vote on the bill is expected later this week, Tuesday's result is progress for the Democrats, who recently failed to pass a similar resolution.
