WATCH: 30 Seconds to Mars lead singer Jared Leto calls terminally ill Russian superfan after being contacted by hospice charity
American actor and singer Jared Leto has made headlines in Russia after video-calling a terminally ill woman on her birthday. Anastasia Petrova, living in a Moscow hospice, is a huge fan of Leto’s rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars.
The call was organized by Vera, a hospice care fund that works with terminally ill adults and children to help them through their final days.
Petrova, who has a cardboard figure of Leto at home, was surprised by her hero on her 27th birthday. The idea was cooked up by her brother, Maxim, who contacted the charity with his request.
“My dream is for Jared to find out that there is this girl in Russia who is smart, beautiful, ambitious, and loving. Who believes in herself, in us, in the power of the [Thirty Seconds to] Mars family,” Maxim said. “I dream that she hears words of support, not only from me, her mum, and sisters but also from her long-time idol and friend Jared Leto.”
