Reproduction’s role in the 2024 election

The Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade in June 2022 has led Democrats to victory in the elections held since then. For 2024, the right to contraception and in-vitro fertilization seems to be the new scare tactic to get Americans to vote blue in the polls. Lead Senate Republicans are going on a talk show circuit tour to try and change the narrative and push for pro-IVF bills. This new legislation comes after Alabama’s top court ruled frozen embryos are legally children and the destruction of such embryos constitutes a crime under the state’s “wrongful death of a minor” law. On this episode of 360 View, Scottie Nell Hughes concludes that the reason contraception is such a hot topic is that hookup culture and getting married later in life is becoming the societal norm. Her panel (Desi K Robinson, health professor and doula; Woodrow Johnston, CEO of Revere Strategies; Timothy Gordon, host of the Rules for Retrogrades Podcast) weighs in. Or is there something to be said for taking responsibility for the people you sleep with?

Police reform 180

During ‘police week’, the House GOP announced new bills to support police and allow them to actually do their job. The George Floyd riots brought about police reform initiatives and ‘defund the police’ movements. However, since the implementation of these rules, which allow criminals to break the law, crime has skyrocketed across the nation. Americans are fed up, and the protests breaking out across college campuses were the final straw. Students and professional protesters who joined their ranks destroyed university campuses, terrorizing students who actually attended classes, and even interrupted graduation ceremonies or caused them to be canceled. UNC has completely done away with their DEI programs and is transferring their $2.3 million in funding to campus police and public safety initiatives. Motivated by recent pro-Palestinian campus protests, the board reasoned that more funds were needed for law enforcement on campus. States and companies are also reversing laws allowing shoplifters to get away scot free. On this episode of 360 View, Scottie Nell Hughes discusses with her panel (Dominick Izzo, Former Chicago area police officer; Ronald Hampton, Author & retired DC Metropolitan police officer; Steve Abramowicz, CEO, Heartland Journal) about the absolute 180 on police and crime.

Are graduation speeches the new social movement?

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker criticized President Joe Biden during a commencement speech at a Catholic university. Butker, a devout Catholic himself, slammed Biden for his response to the coronavirus pandemic as well as his positions on issues such as abortion and radical gender ideology. Meanwhile, Biden is hemorrhaging the minority vote. He thinks the way to relate to his base on his comeback tour is pushing back a ban on menthol cigarettes, trying to legalize marijuana, and giving an HBCU commencement speech. On this episode of 360 View, Scottie Nell Hughes asks her panel (Rainer Shea, student, Humboldt County, California; Timothy Gordon, host, Rules for Retrogrades podcast; Angie Wong, co-host, The Final Countdown): with the culture wars seeping into commencement speeches this year, are graduations the new social movement?

The debates: A presidential slugfest?

On this episode of 360 View, Scottie Nell Hughes digs into President Biden’s latest challenge to Donald Trump to engage in two presidential debates in the coming months. But the details of the debates leave much to be desired and a lot of questions are still up in the air about former President Trump’s pending legal cases as well as President Biden’s physical and mental fitness. Scottie is joined by her expert panel (Alan Grayson, former US congressman; Larry Ward, President of Political Media Inc.; Steve Malzberg, Conservative Media Commentator) to discuss what will be the result of these debates and if any surprises await the American people as we move closer to the November election.

Campus protests enflame the US

Colleges were gripped for weeks as protesters descended on campuses setting up camps. As violence began to arise and the occupations turned destructive, a new brand of protester emerged – the patriotic frat bro. But this was not the end. Due to the destruction and violence and refusal of some of these protesters (some of whom are not even students) to leave graduation, ceremonies have been canceled across the country. This all comes while Joe Biden is trying to pass sweeping student loan forgiveness, which already angers those who say it puts the burden on taxpayers. On this episode of The 360 View, Scottie Nell Hughes discusses with her panel (‘Dr. Turley Talks’ host Dr. Steve Turley and University of New Haven lecturer Robert McDonald) the unexpected effect the protests are having on the Biden administration’s Gaza policy, as well as the 2024 presidential election.

The strain of US relations with China

From tech to spying to potential involvement in world wars, relations between the United States and China are tense at best. It started when a Chinese balloon floated over the entirety of the US, delaying an important bilateral meaning with China. President Joe Biden has also signed a bill forcing the sale of the Chinese social media company TikTok. This comes as Biden is also implementing tariffs and sanctions against China to slow its access to technology such as semiconductors. During Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s latest meeting in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping said Washington needs to look at China’s development “in a positive light” in order for bilateral relations to improve. At the height of tensions are opposing views on wars in the Middle East. On this episode of 360 View, Scottie Nell Hughes discusses with her panel of experts (lLionel of Lionel Media, East Asia Expert KJ Noh, & Kim Iversen, host of the Iversen Show) whether a Biden or Trump White House could better improve relations with China.
