FULL SHOW: 49 years after Attica, COVID-19 hits US prisons

The novel coronavirus has infiltrated prisons and jails across the country, with 186,000 infections and more than 1,000 reported deaths. Nearly 50 years ago, inmates at Attica Prison in New York held an uprising to protest inhumane and abusive prison conditions. This event is widely considered to be the birth of the modern prison reform movement. Dr. Heather Ann Thompson, winner of the Pulitzer and Bancroft prizes and author of “Blood in the Water: The Attica Prison Uprising of 1971 and Its Legacy” weighs in. The Pentagon funneled taxpayer money away from the federal CARES Act to pay for jet engine parts, body armor and defense contractors, according to a report by the Washington Post. RT America’s John Huddy has the story. China is defending its decision to send nearly 40 warplanes over the Taiwan Strait last week as Taipei hosted talks with US officials. But while Taiwan is claiming it has the power to defend itself, questions remain as to how the country will respond. RT America’s Rachel Blevins has the details. Then former UK MP George Galloway discusses the latest out of the Asia.
