Actress, singer and activist Maria Conchita Alonso joins Steve Malzberg (in for Rick Sanchez) to discuss the occupation of Venezuela’s DC embassy by US activists to prevent US authorities from replacing its staff with diplomats loyal to US-backed self-declared president of Venezuela, Juan Guaido. She also discusses her suspicion that Venezuela’s Red Cross is collaborating with the Maduro government to divert humanitarian help. Then former US diplomat Jim Jatras joins to argue that the US “Bolshevizes” polities abroad to justify US regime-change meddling around the world.
UN says Assange’s human rights may have been violated
The United States is preparing to weigh in on WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s legal status ahead of his extradition hearing. Assange is currently being held in Belmarsh Prison, which has been called “Britain’s Guantanamo Bay,” where he met with a UN special rapporteur on torture.
Judge indicted for helping fugitive avoid ICE
In a move that the Massachusetts Attorney General called a "radical and politically motivated attack on our state and the independence of our courts,” a judge among others has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly misleading an ICE agent and helping an undocumented immigrant evade capture.
