Teenager shot in head, teacher wounded in Atlanta school shooting
A 14-year-old student and a teacher have been injured in a shooting at Price Middle School in southeast Atlanta, Georgia. The student was reportedly shot in the back of his neck.
The teenager was taken to the city's Grady Hospital in stable
condition. The teacher was treated on the scene for minor injuries
and bruises.
“There is one boy who was shot. He's OK,” an Atlanta
police spokesperson said. The student was reportedly released from
the hospital later.
Police have not disclosed the names of either the shooter or the
victim.
The suspect, who was tentatively identified as a student, has
been taken into custody. Atlanta Public Schools later confirmed
that the suspect was a student at Price.
According to police, immediately after the shooting started an
armed officer at the school managed to subdue the individual and
force him to drop his weapon.
Shortly after the incident, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed condemned
the shooting, saying that “gun violence in and around our
schools is simply unconscionable and must end.”
The school was placed on temporary lockdown following the incident.
